NWS Forecaster Discussion
581 fxus65 kpih 200253 aaa afdpih Area forecast discussion...updated National Weather Service Pocatello Idaho 853 PM MDT Friday Mar 19 2010 Update...we did another quick update to decrease cloud cover a little earlier this evening...even across the eastern/southeastern mountains. Otherwise...the forecast appears on track for tonight. Keyes && Previous discussion... /issued 426 PM MDT Friday Mar 19 2010/ Update...we did a quick update to account for instability showers across portions of the area...mainly for the eastern portion of the central mountains across the snake plain and into the southern Highlands. Precipitation amounts will be light and most of this should die down once the sun sets. The exception will be along the Wyoming border closer to the wave moving along The Divide. Keyes Previous discussion... /issued 1242 PM MDT Friday Mar 19 2010/ Short term...tonight through Sunday night much of the County Warning Area is having a mainly sunny and dry afternoon although a bit on the chilly side. A short wave dropping southward will spread some clouds into the eastern Highlands this afternoon and tonight and some locations should see a few snow showers. But with the best moisture and dynamics remaining to the east any accumulation should be very light. With the short wave departing and ridging building in from the west just about all precipitation should end shortly after midnight. Dry and warming weather is expected for the weekend along with plenty of sunshine with Sunday the warmest day with some places in the lower snake plain and eastern Magic Valley seeing high temperatures cracking 60. A trough approaching from the west on Sunday night will help to squash the ridge a bit and spread a chance of precipitation back into the central mountains. However the models have slowed a bit and most precipitation should hold off until late on Sunday night. Ch. Long term...Monday through next Friday. The 12z GFS and 00z European model (ecmwf) were showing fairly comparable solutions through the period with Pacific disturbances moving inland Monday/Tuesday and Friday. A weaker wave passing just to our north was also indicated by both models Thursday. Thus have bumped precipitation potential upwards on Monday/Tuesday and Friday and then maintained lower end potential for thursdays passing wave. Seasonable temperatures expected throughout the period. Huston Aviation... VFR conditions will prevail through Saturday as a ridge of high pressure builds over the northwest states. Huston && Pih watches/warnings/advisories... none. && $$
