Area forecast discussion 
National Weather Service Pocatello Idaho

Short term...today through Wednesday night. A cold front will 
move through the area this morning. Expect widespread 
precipitation across the central mountains and eastern Highlands 
with 1-2 inches of snow possible. Expect isolated rain showers 
across the Snake River Plain. The snow level will be around 5000 
feet. Winds will be breezy through the morning and slightly 
increasing in the afternoon looking to remain just below Wind 
Advisory criteria. With frontal passage by early afternoon... 
expect mostly light shower development this afternoon in higher 
terrain with heating. Models are indicating an upper level low to 
develop over the upper snake Highlands bringing the possibility of 
stronger snow and rain showers to this area this afternoon into 
early evening. Tuesday high pressure will start building in. 
Expect lingering isolated showers across high terrain in the 
eastern Highlands Tuesday. Tuesday night trough Wednesday expect 
drier and warmer conditions. Wednesday night into Thursday morning 
the next Pacific trough starts to approach. Wyatt 


Long term...Thursday through Monday. Models in decent agreement on 
very progressive Patten through the extended with systems roughly 
every other day. Upper ridge breaks down on Thursday with Pacific 
trough punching into pacnw then dropping across eastern Idaho on 
Friday. Remnants of low stick around into early Saturday but 
transitory ridge in place for Sunday. Next Pacific system prognosticated to 
reach coast by Monday though models keep a resemblance of ridge in place 
over eastern Idaho for last day of extended range. Made only a few 
minor adjustments to going forecast. Dmh

Aviation...middle level cloud cover in place over all of eastern Idaho 
with radar and surface observations showing light precipitation in 
places. All aviation sites remain VFR this morning...but showers 
especially this morning should bring conditions down to MVFR. IFR 
possible over higher terrain. Early Spring temperature profiles may allow 
convective showers to remain most areas through the afternoon and 
early evening but the best chance this afternoon would remain over 
higher elevation areas. Dmh
