NWS Forecaster Discussion
936 fxus63 kgrb 202044 afdgrb Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Green Bay WI 344 PM CDT Sat Mar 20 2010 Short term...today through Sunday of interest this afternoon...a few echoes appeared on radar along the Menominee Shawano County line. These returns are associated with prescribed burn of in this region and should diminish early this evening. Otherwise...tranquil pattern noted through Sunday. Some high clouds will stream across the southeast portion of the forecast area for the remainder of the afternoon and early evening hours. Will have becoming mostly clear in this region with mostly clear skies over the remainder of the region. Will go below guidance in the typically colder locations. Cold front expected to move across southern Canada on Sunday. Winds will become south or southwesterly over much of the area. Better mixing will take place across the north due to tighter pressure gradient and higher terrain to mix deeper. Have trended toward the cooler met guidance in the Fox Valley and Lakeshore region where poorer mixing will occur or lake breeze will kick. Leaned toward the warmer mav guidance across central and north central Wisconsin due to better mixing. Long term...Sunday night through Saturday. Like much of the winter season...all the action is staying to our south. The current big system over the Southern Plains that is producing snow from North Texas to Chicago will move almost straight east...leaving zonal flow across the Great Lakes for the next few days. An upper trough swings through Tuesday and Tuesday night that might bring some rain or snow showers. Then dry northwest upper flow through Thursday. An upper trough moving from the Central Plains could bring snow or rain next Saturday but there are differences in the models as to the track of the system. && Aviation...VFR conditions expected tonight and Sunday with no significant storms in sight. Northeast or north winds will become light and variable early this evening...then become west southwest Sunday morning. && Grb watches/warnings/advisories... none. && $$ Eckberg/rdm
