NWS Forecaster Discussion
715 fxus61 kpbz 191202 afdpbz Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA 802 am EDT Friday Mar 19 2010 Synopsis... high pressure will provide dry weather into Saturday...with warm days and cool nights. A slow moving storm system will bring showers later Saturday night into early next week. A few snow showers are possible Monday night as cooler air works into the region. && Near term /through tonight/... high pressure will prevail through tonight with mainly clear skies and above normal temperatures. && Short term /Saturday through Sunday night/... ridging will gradually nudge to the east. Middle level moisture will be slow to increase...with clouds increasing Saturday. As a cold front approaches Saturday night a low chance of showers will develop west to east. As a slow moving storm system moves across the southeast US showers will be widespread Sunday and Sunday night. && Long term /Monday through Thursday/... low pressure will moves east to the middle Atlantic by Tuesday with showers Monday into early Tuesday. Enough cold air behind the system Fr a changeover to snow showers for a time Monday night and early morning Tuesday. Dry high pressure for Wednesday then the next front will bring a chance of showers Thursday. && Aviation /12z Friday through Tuesday/... blend of recent sref model output maintain VFR conditions across the upper Ohio Valley into Saturday night. NAM model profiles show surface winds will be generally from the west and southwest today increasing to 10 kts with gusts to near 20 kts this afternoon due to deep vertical mixing. Winds will be from the southwest 4-7 kts tonight. Incoming low pressure system from the mountain west will develop a warm front near the Great Lakes Saturday night. Increased surface layer moisture may help develop MVFR stratocumulus across the upper Ohio Valley late Saturday night into midday Sunday. By that time...MVFR showers associated with the low pressure system itself may begin to move across the upper Ohio Valley. These MVFR showers should continue into Tuesday. There is a chance the precipitation type could include snow showers Monday night. && Pbz watches/warnings/advisories... Maryland...none. Ohio...none. PA...none. WV...none. && $$
