NWS Forecaster Discussion
081 fxus65 kfgz 200936 afdfgz Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Flagstaff Arizona 230 am MST Sat Mar 20 2010 Synopsis...expect below normal temperatures and locally gusty northerly winds today behind the most recent weather disturbance. For Sunday and Monday...high pressure will dominate the weather with warmer daytime temperatures...light winds and generally clear skies. Another weak weather system will bring cooler temperatures and a slight chance of showers on Tuesday and Wednesday. && Discussion...a short-wave high pressure system will move across the southwest United States from west to east today through Monday. For today...cooler air behind the most recent storm system will keep daytime highs generally below normal. In addition...locally gusty north to northeast winds are anticipated...especially along and south of the Mogollon Rim...as surface high pressure moves across the Colorado plateau and intermountain west. By Sunday and Monday high pressure in the middle to upper levels will move across Arizona and into Texas. This will result in a switch in the flow to a warmer southerly direction with daytime highs climbing to above normal levels both days. Otherwise...dry conditions and mainly clear skies appear in store. For Tuesday and Wednesday...models are in fair agreement in dropping another weak storm across Arizona from the north. The main impact appears to be a cool down to below normal temperatures along with a chance of mountain snow and valley rain showers. At this time...any precipitation will be on the light side. There should be little or no slow-down the the Spring thaw. For Thursday into next weekend...it looks like high pressure will continue to dominate the weather pattern with only a weak weather disturbance or two to kick-up daytime breezes. && Aviation...for the 12z package...expect VFR conditions for the next 24 hours. Aviation discussion not updated for amendments. && Fgz watches/warnings/advisories...none. && $$ Public..................McCollum aviation................Clark Visit weather.Gov/Flagstaff for northern Arizona weather information.
